To fully grasp the scope of our Mission, it
is important to have an understanding of what we mean by
Human-Animal Ecology.
This can be done by answering three questions:
Question 1 : What is an Ecosystem?
Question 2 : What is Ecology?
Question 3
: What is Human-Animal
Ecology?
ECOSYSTEM
An Ecosystem is a community of interacting organisms and the
physical environment in which they live. On a small scale it can
be:
- A
small marsh
-
A tiny patch of forest
-
A single sand dune
- A coral reef
Each is unique in its species and microclimates.
On a large scale: It can refer to much more extensive communities;
a 100 to 1,000 square kilometer forest or a major river system,
each having many such micro environments On a global scale: It refers to an even larger concept. The total
ecosystem of the Earth includes sub-categories of
ecosystems:
-
Coastal
- Forest
-
Grasslands
-
Freshwater
- Agricultural
ECOLOGY
It is the science of the relationship between organisms and their
environments.
HUMAN-ANIMAL
ECOLOGY
It is the science of the relationship between human
and wild animal populations, and how their interactions affect
their relationship with the environment in which they
live.
